Ambassador Barrett Visits Mikkeli
Ambassador Barbara Barrett visited Mikkeli on June 16. Her program included meetings with Governor of the Province of Eastern Finland Pirjo Ala-Kapee, Mayor Kimmo Mikander, and Lieutenant General Ilkka Aspara and Major General Mika Peltonen. Ambassador presented the America@YourLibrary book donation to the Mikkeli Public Library – South Savo Regional Library. Mikkeli City Library is one of the 15 regional libraries that have so far received a donation of over 100 books including contemporary non-fiction and fiction titles as well as American classics. At the library Ambassador met with library patrons, students from the Mikkeli University Consortium (MUC), and representatives from the Mikkeli Finnish-American Society. She discussed educational and research topics with Secretary General Päivi Lehtonen, Dean David Atkinson, and Professor Mika Sillanpää from the Mikkeli University Consortium. Ambassador Barrett also visited Savcor Group Ltd.
